I wanted to share my thoughts on some great GF foods. Lärabars, Extreme Pizza, more Kettle Cuisine and Two Stones Pub in Newark, DE.
Lets discuss. I have now had the opportunity to try a number of different Lärabars: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Banana Nut Bread, Cappuccino, Blueberry, Cashew Cookie, Pecan Pie and Apple Pie. They all live up to their names and taste delicious. For those of you who haven't tried them, they are a blend of unsweetened fruit, nuts and spices. They are great to have incase you find yourself somewhere that GF food is not easy to come by. Lärabar are also the maker of Joculat which reminds me of a brownie type of bar. They come in flavors like Chocolate, Chocolate Hazelnut and Chocolate Mint. These are so yummy. To get more info on Lärabar and Joculat as well as their newest creation Über Bar go to http://www.larabar.com/. You can find Lärabar at local health food stores. I buy mine at my local Shoprite.
I am in love with GF pizza from Extreme Pizza. Especially the Holy Cow with Italian Sausage. Their pizza is wonderful. The service at our Wilmington, Delaware location is great and they also deliver. You can order from the menu and request GF or you can create your own GF pizza. A rumor has it that some GF appetizers and some GF soups will soon be on the menu as well as GF beer and cider if you choose to dine at their location. Which I must say is a really cool restaurant.
When I spoke with the manager regarding what GF toppings where available she said I could order anything BUT meatballs for my pizza. So you have a great choice of pizza whether you make your own or choose from the many great pizzas offered on the menu. Check Extreme Pizza out at http://locations.extremepizza.com/zgrid/themes/43/portal/index.jsp
They have locations all across the USA.
Another round of applause for Kettle Cuisine. I have now tasted a number of their soups and they are so yummy. My new favorite is the Organic Mushroom and Potato. A light creamy potato broth with great flavor with mushrooms that are sautéed in butter with herbs. The Thai Curry Chicken Soup has all the flavor you would expect with Thai food. They blend coconut milk with lemongrass along with Thai spices and chicken to come up with a soup that is great tasting. Natural chicken, bamboo shoots, red peppers, mushrooms and rice complete this great flavored soup. You can read more about Kettle Cuisine at http://www.kettlecuisine.com/. I have found Kettle Cuisine at my local Shoprite but I know they are available at Whole Foods Markets. Hopefully, they will be opening a local Whole Foods Market near me so I can get more Kettle Cuisine variety.
Last but not least if you love GF pub grub and GF beer we now have a pub in Newark, Delaware that offers both, Two Stones Pub. Apparently Celiac Disease runs in the families of the owners so they not only offer GF beers, mostly Green's but their menu actually notes which menu offerings are GF so you can pick right off the menu. The staff are knowledgeable about a GF diet too which makes it a lot easier to ask questions prior to ordering. Two Stones Pub will soon be offering the greatly anticipated Dogfish Head Tweason'ale, a new GF brew which should be available in late February. Another great reason to enjoy Two Stones Pub. Check them out at http://www.twostonespub.com/
I am still working hard looking for more yummy GF foods and GF friendly restaurants. Did you know Gordons now has GF tilapia? I saw the commercial and it said GF so I have to check it out. Also, check out Jones Dairy Farms. They have a number of GF products too. Will review next time. Like I mentioned earlier, I am eagerly awaiting the bottle release of Tweason'ale and once I can taste it I will blog about it. Until then my dear readers, keep reading those labels and enjoy living Gluten Free.
Bonn Appertite!!
